Nestled within bushland of Georges Head, Mosman, this historic sandstone building commands spectacular views of Sydney Harbour’s shipping channels, Camp Cove, Watsons Bay and Rose Bay. Gunners’ Barracks was designed by colonial architect James Barnet and constructed in 1873. The building has had many uses over the 130 years in which the military occupied the Middle Head and Chowder Bay Precinct.

This is an intimate venue and you’re not going to be able to fit 300 guests in here! It does have a beautiful charm to it and is well worth exploring for weddings with a smaller numbers of guests. Because space is at such a premium, you run the risk of the live music loosing its impact on the night if it is not well planned. Your wedding will need around 6 hours of music. 1 hour to cover the ceremony and 5 hours to cover the reception.

Wedding Ceremony: The ceremony will take place either in the stone courtyard, on the front balcony or you can book the stunning Georges Head Lookout which is located a 5 minute walk away from the Barracks at the top of the hill. Dinner is served in the main dining room. Make sure you read our guide to choosing wedding ceremony music.

Wedding Reception: Following the ceremony, guests will be directed to the main balcony overlooking the water. Live music will continue out here on the balcony until guests move into the dining room for dinner. There is no space in the main dining room for musicians, so what we do is open one of the middle doors and play through the doorway into the room. It works surprisingly well. Dancing can take place either in the side room or out in the stone courtyard (Although the band must play inside due to noise restrictions). Most wedding receptions start around 6pm and finish at 11pm or midnight. Make sure you read our guide to choosing wedding reception music.
